If you like classic musical theatre with great singing and dancing, delicious double entendres, and the madcap comedy of Mel Brooks, the Atlanta Lyric Theatre’s production of YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN is just the ticket. An excellent cast, ably led by Googie Uterhardt as Dr. Frederick Frankenstein, is guaranteed to lift your spirits and send you out of the theater with a smile on your face. The sets (from the national tour) are beautiful and far better than anything you’ve seen lately in a local production. The show is playing through Sunday, November 8 at the intimate Jennie T. Anderson Theatre in Marietta, Georgia. Go ahead treat yourself, you deserve a night out.
Mel Brooks’ YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN features Book by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan; Music and Lyrics by Mel Brooks. The comedy genius Mel Brooks adapts his legendarily funny film into a brilliant stage creation – Young Frankenstein! Grandson of the infamous Victor Frankenstein, Frederick Frankenstein (pronounced “Fronk-en-steen”) inherits his family’s estate in Transylvania. With the help of a hunchbacked sidekick, Igor (pronounced “Eye-gore”), and a leggy lab assistant, Inga (pronounced normally), Frederick finds himself in the mad scientist shoes of his ancestors. “It’s alive!” he exclaims as he brings to life a creature to rival his grandfather’s. Eventually, of course, the monster escapes and hilarity abounds. With such memorable tunes as “The Transylvania Mania,” “He Vas My Boyfriend” and “Puttin’ On The Ritz,” Young Frankenstein is scientifically proven, monstrously good entertainment.
